Learn to play guitar like a pro

Guitar lessons with the foundation to equip you for any style of music

Whether you’re just picking up the guitar or are an experienced player feeling stuck, frustration can set in fast.

Without the right guidance, it’s easy to waste time on bad habits, random tutorials, or practice that doesn’t actually move you forward.

That’s why I love meeting players where they are and giving them the right tools to grow—whether that’s building a solid foundation or breaking through a plateau.

At Haley School of Guitar you can expect…

A teacher who gets it

Hi, I’m Jon Haley. I’ve been immersed in guitar since I was a kid, and I know not all teachers are equal. I have a Master’s Degree in Classical Guitar, but more importantly, I have the heart and patience of a teacher. I’m here to make sure learning is both effective and enjoyable.

A strong foundation

You may not know this, but many of the world’s best guitarists have a background in classical guitar! Building a foundation with elements of classical guitar technique can prepare you for almost any direction you want to take your guitar. We’ll tackle things like proper hand technique, music theory, scale mastery, and so much more!

A clear path to mastery

The main reason people stop improving is they lose sight of their destination. I’ll create a custom roadmap for your lessons so you always know where you’re headed. We’ll stop to celebrate your progress along the way, helping you stay motivated (and excited!) to reach your next goal.

Allow me to introduce myself

I remember the moment my love for guitar clicked—listening to Christopher Parkening’s classical guitar album in my parents' living room when I was 7 years old. My grandfather started teaching me when I was 12 and that passion then led me to formal classical guitar lessons at 18. A few years later, I won the presidential music scholarship at Houghton University and earned both my undergraduate and master’s degrees there. Those experiences gave me not only technical skills but also the ability to teach guitar in a way that connects with every student.

What makes my approach unique is that I am a classical guitarist who appreciates and plays all styles of guitar! Over the years, I’ve loved playing country-western gigs with my grandfather’s band, soloing in jazz ensembles, jamming with friends, and performing classical repertoire in concert halls.

So whether you want to be able to play socially with friends or give a classical recital, I can get you where you want to go.

My students say it best…

"Jon is attentive and highly focused on finding the best path for his students. After developing years of bad habits, he is not only helping me to break them, but also building me up in the places that I lack in a clear and concise manner to achieve my goals as a guitarist."

— Avery (church worship leader)

"Our 10-year-old daughter started online guitar lessons with Jon as an absolute beginner, and I'm amazed at how much she has learned in such a short time!  Jon is incredibly patient, encouraging, and skilled at making lessons both fun and engaging.  The lessons are well-structured and allow her to progress at her own pace while staying motivated.  I highly recommend Jon to anyone looking for a fantastic guitar teacher!"

— Melanie (mother of a young student)
